Obama's Body Language Says He's Not Comfortable Around Bush
Here we also see the two looking in different directions. When you see this repeatedly as you see in these photos it reflects how they are not like minded which is obviously the case. The wrinkling on Obama’s forehead and furrowing of his brow indicates tension and annoyance.
No photo of these two says it better. Obama looks away and has a smirk as though he is saying to himself- “when is this going to be over!” His shoulder is raised as he is literally giving Gerorge Bush the cold shoulder in a subconscious way. His hands are pressed at his side which further indicates his tension and discomfort at being in Bush’s presence and having to engage in this photo op. Obama’s pressing his hands against his thighs is also a subconscious way of containing himself in what he obviously feels is an unpleasant situation.
Here we see the tension in Obama’s non toothy fake smile as he press his lips together in annoyance. There is tension in his lower jaw which further speaks to his level of discomfort at the situation of having to attend the unveiling of the former President’s White House portrait. he has also made it a point to walk slightly ahead of Bush swinging his arm slightly forward as in indicator that the is the leader here as the current President.
In analyzing body language when one sees many photos that reflect a consistent emotion, rest assured that the accuracy of your assessment is higher than if you were just observing one or two photos. It is clear that Obama clearly does not share many warm feelings towards Bush whereas Bush appears to have buried the hatchet.
