Dr. Lillian Glass Discovers America’s Got Talent's Timothy Poe’s Stuttering Also Seems to Be A Lie
Apparently America’s Got Talent performer Timothy Poe who claimed to be a stuttering vet ” was a liar as his official military records don’t indicate he was injured by a grenade in combat while serving in Afghanistan three years ago. He also lied that he realized he could sing only after his speech therapist suggested he practice singing in the shower. It tuned out that he knew he could sing a lot earlier as he was the lead singer of a Minneapolis band for years.
Now there is yet another lie in my view, which I have discovered- his speech impediment. As soon as I heard him speak I knew something was not right. A huge giveaway was that he stuttered all the way through his interviews with Howie Mandell, Sharon Osbourn, and Howard Stern. Then after he performed, he was completely fluent when speaking backstage speaking to Nick Canon.
What alerted me to his no doubt bogus speech pattern was stuttering patterns. They concerned me. When a person stutters they usually have a tonic block whereby they will repeat the first letter of a sound like “/fuh /fuh/fuh/fuh/ first” . They may hey have a klonic block where they say the first sound and prolong for a second or so like like “”f—-rst.” It often happens on specific sounds that are specific to the particular person. For instance a person may stutter on f sounds while others may stutter on t sounds.
Then there are stutterers who repeat words or phrases over and over again. It usually happens at the beginning of the phrase, not at the end or the middle of words as Mr. Poe demonstrated.
Then there are those who hesitate whereby they don’t they say anything and are silent until they immediately blurt out what they have been trying to say.Oftentimes this is painful to watch as the person will often have unpleasant facial contortions which go along with their painful attempts to produce a sound.
So when I heard Timothy’s stuttering patterns I thought it was odd. he had way too many varied types of stuttering patterns in his speech. That is what often happens when a person appears to be faking a stutter.
When he spoke in front of he judges, he also stuttered on too many different sounds and on too many different words especially mid sentence. He also had hints of facial contortions that didn’t quite make it . They were fleeting facial cntortions, unlike we see in those with serious stuttering issues.
He stuttered on m sounds, j sounds, t sounds , s sounds, l sounds, h sounds and sh sounds.
He stutteed in the beginning and middle and at the end of sentences which was very unsual as people tend to usually stutter at the beginning of words or phrases.
He stuttered on vowels and on consonants. Usually people stutter on consonents. Vowels are when they are usually fluent. He stuttered at the end of words like the word “walk ” (k sound in walk) which was highly unusual. He also stuttered n the middle of the word (amazing) – the z sound, which was highy unusual.
When he cried it seemed to have no tears attached and he recovered from his emotion too quickly to appear genuine in my view.
Then right befoe he sang he said he was “so nervous right now” in fluent speech. When Howie Mandel said :Don’t be nervous” he stuttered ed oh oh kay. That seemed contrived to me.
When he sang he didn’t stutter which is typical of stutters. Famed country singer Mel Tillis was a perfect example of this. Mel never stuttered when he sang, only when he spoke. In fact in working with stutters one of the methods to help them stop stuttering is to get them to speak in melodic tones.
And finally when h was complimented she suddently stopped stuttering . Then the real test was when he spoke to Nick Canon at the end and there was totally fluent speech.
So not only did this man lie about his military injuries, his singing voice but he now most likely lied about his stuttering in my view.
